Zombie Virus: Revived from Thousands of Years

We have already witnessed the horrors of what one tiny little virus could do. The Corona virus brought the whole world into a grinding halt. Many people lost their loved ones, financial support along with mental peace. Vaccines were made rapidly to hold the spread of the virus.

What could happen if the world face even deadliest strain. There could be thousands and millions of ancient and deadly viruses hidden deep within the permafrost. Recently scientists of French National Center for Scientific Research found 13 ancient viruses frozen from permafrost in Siberia reign of Russia. Among them the oldest one survived for more than 48500 years which is an amoeba virus. The scientist named the virus Pandoravirus yedoma.

So one of the questions arises among us, after infected by the virus would we turn into zombies? Why scientists named the virus zombie virus? Would the Zombie apocalypse come true like the movies? The answer to this question is we won’t turn into blood thirsty cannibals after infecting the virus.

The reason behind this name is because these viruses remained dormant since the prehistorical times. They were alive but was in inactive form and was frozen for quite a long time. Now they have been revived due to rapid climate change which is melting the glacier creating more opportunities of reviving more unknown deadly viruses. Because the viruses are revived from nearly dead form that’s why they are called zombie virus.

In a report published in science alert, the lead researchers reported that these viruses are capable of infecting animals as well as humans which is a great matter of concern. It already has claimed many people’s lives. In 2016 a child died and dozens of people were hospitalized due to an outbreak caused by the virus in Siberia. The virus also affected the deer , goats , sheep of Siberia which also caused the outbreak.

Researchers of science alert also mentioned that, as these viruses are thousands of years old it might take a long time to get familiar with their characteristics let alone finding the remedies of the diseases that the virus might cause. In the meantime, the viruses might spread faster than any other viruses causing many lives.

As global warming is causing so much trouble, we should be concerned about it , unless the world  would turn upside down just because of these tiny little creatures.
